Het overlijden van Gil de Ferran komt als een schok binnen in de autosportwereld. De 56-jarige Braziliaan overleed nadat hij een hartaanval kreeg in Florida, waar hij met zijn zoon aan het racen was. De Ferran was consultancy-lid van McLaren en vervulde bij dat team én Honda ook de rol van sportief directeur.
